A frame ABC with bending stiffness E Iz is clamped at A and
A frame ABC with bending stiffness, E Iz, is clamped at A and loaded at C with a horizontal force P. Using superposition and Appendix H:
Solution
let us first analyse AB part of frame only.Bending moment at B due to P is P*(L/2) in clockwise direction.
downward deflection at B due to this bending moment is( (PL/2)*(L2)/(2EI) = PL3/4EI
Clockwise rotation at B due to this bending moment is (PL/2)*L/EI = PL2/2EI
Now analyse BC part of frame.
Leftside deflection at C due to P is P*(L/2)3/3EI = PL3/24EI
Clockwise rotation at C due to P is P*(L/2)2/2EI = PL2/8EI
Now using superposition principle
downward deflection at C is PL3/4EI and left side deflaction at C is PL3/24EI
Clockwise rotation at C is (PL2/2EI) + (PL2/8EI) = 5PL2/8EI.
