Compare and contrast the radiation sources, lenses, and image-capturing devices used in light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy

Both light microscopes and electron microscopes use radiation in the form of light and electron beams respectively to magnify objects and to obtain their in depth detail. They are empployed in diverse fields including biology, medical sciences and material sciences.

When it comes to radiation sources, light microscopes use light in the visible wavelength ( 400nm - 700nm), whereas electron microscopes use beams of electrons which approximately have a wavelength of 1 nanometer.

The formation of a image in case of light microscopes is controlled by modulating the light source via glass lenses ( Projector lens and Condenser lens), whereas in case of Transmission electron microscopes, the beams of electrons are focussed using electromagnets because of the negative charge carried by electrons.

In case of light microscopes, the images can be seen with the naked human eye. However, in case of TEM, fluorescent screens are usually employed to capture the image, which provide grey-scale images and converted into false-colour micrographs.
