Explain the biological relevance of this statement – Your pancreas synthesizes and secretes the proteolytic enzyme carboxypeptidase in the form of an inactive precursor called procarboxypeptidase, which is activated as a result of proteolytic cleavage by the enzyme trypsin in the duodenum of your small intestine.
Solution
Pancreatic proteases are not synthesized in active form .Pancreatic proteases are secreted in the form of inactive precursor such as pro car boxy peptidase in order to protect themselves from their own enzyme. When food reaches the small intestine these inactive form get activated for action.
Pro car boxy peptidase is activated by trypsin to active form car boxy peptidase which help in digestion of food .They cleave peptide bonds at the carboxy terminal of protein it is involved in digestiion of food and protein .
