You are measuring biopotentials emanating from the rectus femora\'s muscle (one of your quadriceps) on the surface of the thigh of an obese person. What is the effect of the additional fat on your measurement (compared to making the same measurement on a skinny person)? Note that the resistivity of fat is higher compared to other tissue (skin and muscle). Be sure to state any assumptions that you make about the changes in any of the variables that affect the biopotential measurement.

Solution

The interference between the electrode and skin will be high in the presence of additional fat in obese person. Utilization of high end electrode and amplifiers can minimize the effect. Since the resistance of fat is more than other tissue the electrical potential of the cell will be interfered.
