In his Harvard Business Review article, \"IT DOES NOT MATTER,\" Nicholas Carr has stirred up many debates about the issue of information technology becoming so ubiquitous and absurd that it is now more so a commodity than a necessity. In the article, Carr advises IT manager and executives to spend less on IT and focus more on vulnerabilities than opportunities. Nicholas Carr goes on to mention that IT no longer gives businesses a competitive edge and its strategic value has decreased.

In summary, Mr. Carrs point is that information technology is nothing more than the infrastructure of modern business. Many business leaders including the CEOs of GE, Dell, Intel, and GM have commented on Mr. Carrs article.

Do you agree with the argument made by the business leaders in this case in support of the competitive advantage that IT can provide to a business? Why or why not?

Yes I do agree with the argument made by business leaders as IT even though becoming ubiquitous it isn\'t absurd. Without IT nowadays businesses won’t survive for long or their scope will be limited. For expanding their business they’ll need to advertise and for advertising they’ll need media which in turn uses IT so directly or indirectly for promotion IT is needed. Not even marketing managerial software that makes management of projects and resources easier are required for businesses. Wherever we see IT has a hand in it and is being used to make the work easier. To gain a competitive advantage using IT is pretty difficult now but one just need a breakthrough and solve an unsolved problem to get an advantage. IT still has potential to grow and is growing at a fast rate already. There are always new problems to be solved new challenges to face as we can augment IT to any field it is not an isolated field like some others so the possibilities for IT are next to infinite.
