The perimeter of a rectangle is 44 m. If the width were doubled and the length were increased by 5 m, the perimeter would be66 m. What are the length and width of the rectangle?

Solution

Let x is the length and y is the width of rectangle.

then perimeter 2(x + y) = 44

or (x + y) = 22...(1)

and 2*(x + 5)(2y) = 66

4(x + 5)(y) = 66

(x +5)(y) = 16.5 ...(2)

solve equation(1) and (2) , we get

The perimeter of a rectangle is 44 m. If the width were doubled and the length were increased by 5 m, the perimeter would be66 m. What are the length and width
