A baseball is thrown straight up, and its height as a function of time is given by the formula h = -16t^2 + 32t where h is in feet and t is in seconds. a) Find the height of the ball when t = 1 sec and when t = 3/2 sec.

Solution

h = -16t^2 +32t

a) height of ball when t=1sec

Plug t= 1sec in h(t)

h(1) = -16 +32 = 16 feet

t = 3/2 sec

h(3/2) = -16(3/2)^2 + 32(3/2)

= -16*9/4 + 32*3

= -36 + 96

= 60 feet
