You are participating in a study group preparing for an upco
You are participating in a study group preparing for an upcoming genetics exam, and one member of the group proposes that each of you draw the structure of two DNA nucleotides joined in a single strand. The figures are drawn and exchanged for correction. You receive the drawing below to correct. Part A Identify things that are wrong in the depiction of each nucleotide. There should not be P - C bonds in the structure of DNA. There should be a nitrogen atom in the deoxyribose ring. There should be one P = O double bond in the phosphate groups. There should be two P = O double bonds in the phosphate groups. The 3\' carbon should be attached to a hydrogen and a hydroxyl group. The position of base attachment is wrong. There must be two hydroxyl groups attached to the side carbon chain of the deoxyribose ring. The hydroxyl group is attached to the wrong carbon in the deoxyribose ring. There should be an oxygen atom in deoxyribose ring. The base should be attached to the oxygen atom of the deoxyribose ring.
Solution
1) There should not be P-C bonds in the structure of DNA. P should attach to O as Phosphate bond.
3)There should be one P=O double bond in phosphate groups.
5) The 3\' carbon should be attached to a hydrogen and a hydroxyl group.
6) The position of base attachment is wrong. Base should attach to 1\' carbon of deoxyribose ring,
8) The hydroxyl group is attached to the wrong carbon in the deoxyribose ring. Hydroxyl group should be at 3\' carbon and not 1\' carbon.
9) There should be an oxygen atom in deoxyribose ring.
