A researcher at SUU is interested in assessing the amount of hours spent studying per week between freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Self-report data is collected from 24 students with 6 students coming from each of the four undergraduate classifications. Data is collected from all 24 students during the same week in the middle of the semester.

1. What is the quasi-independent variable(s) in this study?_________________

2. How many levels does this IV contain?_________________

3. What is the dependent variable(s) in this study?__________________

Data Interpretation

The null and alternative hypotheses for these data are:

H0: 1 = 2 = 3

H1: At least one population mean is different from another

4. Identify and interpret Levene’s Statistic.

5. What is the test statistic?

7. Is the overall test statistic significant? What value do you look at to make your decision regarding the null hypothesis?

8. Identify which of the individual means differ from each other on one of the given post-hoc tests. For example, which Means differ from each other in all of the post-hoc tests? For each type of post-hoc test, list all the means that differ from each other below that particular post-hoc test.

Solution

1) THE QUASI INDEPENDENT VARIABLE HERE WILL BE THE NUMBER OF HOURS THE STUDENTS ARE STUDYING.

2) 4 LEVELS ARE CONTAIN HERE = FRESHMEN. SOPHOMORE JUNIOR SENIOR

3) DEPENDENT VARIABLE HERE IS THE 4 DIFFERENT STUDENTS GROUP - FRESHMEN , JUNIOR, SENIOR, SOPHOMORE

8) FRESHMEN MEAN = 49.25/6 = 8.20

SOPHOMORE MEAN = 70/6= 11.66

JUNIOR= 82.25/6= 13.70

SENIOR MEAN = 120/6 = 20

AS WE CAN SEE THE MEAN OF EACH GROUP IS INCREASING AS THE LEVEL INCREASING AND THE MEAN IS DIFFERENT OF ALL FROM ALL THE OTHERS
