your channel with coarse sediment to increase the friction f

your channel with coarse sediment to increase the friction factor? Design width (increase, decrease, or same?) Design depth (increase, decrease, or same?) Increase slope S Increase friction factor f

Solution

Design width

(increase, decrease, orsame?)

Design depth (increase,decrease, or same?)

Remark : *  slope is inversely proportional to the depth of water, so if slope increses depth of water decreses. Now for same cross sectional area if depth decreses then width should be increased.

** when friction fector increses, means friction force increases which results in decreased velocity. for same flow condition if velocity dreceased then cross sectional area should be increased, to avoid friction depth should be increased and width should be same or dreased ( its upto you)

Design width

(increase, decrease, orsame?)

Design depth (increase,decrease, or same?)

Increase slope S* increase decrease
increase friction factor f** same/dreased increase
