Solution

You can basically draw small trend lines. If it s horizontal line parallel to the x axis then it is to be treated as a normal distance. If the small trend line is diagonal, then it should be treated as a hypotenuse of a right angled triangle. The measurement of such a hypotenuse should be done by measuring the other two sides.

Thus the above method would give you the distance a stock has travelled factoring in the turning points. However this would be an approx measure.
