1.  Moisture: When moisture is reduced, strength increases due to changes in the cell walls, which become more compact

2. Density : With increasing density, strength also increases. Greater density derives from a greater proportion of cells with thick walls and small cavities, and this result in higher strength of wood.

3. Temperature : The strength of wood is reduced with increasing temperature.

4. Duration of loading: With increase in duration, strength of wood decreases.

5. Defects :  More the defects, lesser the strength of the wood.
