We have been using the units Vcm for electric field strength

We have been using the units V/cm for electric field strength. Diving by: 100 would give the SI unit V/m. Show that the V/ m is equivalent to another SI unit for electric field strength, the N/C.

Solution

Formulas:

F = qE

E = KQ/d^2

P.E. = E*d = KQ/d

Units:

Force = Newton(N)

P.E. = Voltage (V)

Q = Coulomb(C)

by formula 1 unit of electric field

E = unit of force F/(unit of charge (Q)) = N/C

by formula 3 unit of Electric field

E = Unit of P.E./(unit of distance(d)) = V/m
