how do you tell if a graph is even odd or neither by looking

how do you tell if a graph is even, odd or neither by looking at it?

Solution

If whatever the graph is doing on one side of y-axis that is mirrored on the other side then that graph is said to be symmetric about y-axis. If the graph of a function is symmetric about y-axis then that graph of function is said to be an even function.

if you start at a point on the graph on one side of the y-axis, and draw a line from that point through the origin and extend the same length on the other side of the y-axis then you get to another point on the graph. Such graphs are called symmetric about origin. If the graph is symmetric about origin then it is said to be odd function.

If it is neither symmetric about y-axis nor about origin then it is said to be neither even nor odd.
