Help with epidemiology ASAP!!
A study of end organ damage was done on hypertensive patients seen at the University of Maryland Hypertension Clinic. The table below was compiled from 3.6 newly identified cases of hypertension and shows evidence of end organ damage classified by severity of hypertension. Compute the probabilities, if possible. a) W hat is the probability that a new hypertensive patient coming to the clinic will have severe hypertension? (b) Given that the patient has severe hypertension, what is the probability for a history of stroke? (c) Given that the new patient with hypertension has an abnormal electrocardiogram, what is the probability that the hypertension is severe? (d) What is the probability that a new patient coming to the clinic will have a history of angina or severe hypertension? (e) Two new patients with hypertension come to the clinic on the same day What is the probability that both have normal electrocardiograms? (d) What is the probability that at least one of the two new patients has a history of angina?Solution
a) 0.147 is the probability of a new hypertension patient who visited the clinic to have severe hypertension. The total cases of severe hypertension are 45+45+45 that is 135 of the total number of cases that is 306+306+306
So probability of new case with severe hypertension is 45+45+45/306+306+306
= 0.147
b)History of stroke in severe hypertension cases is 1 in 45 so the probability is 0.022
c)History of stroke in abnormal electrocardiogram cases is 22 in 45 so the probability is 0.488
d)0.04
