briefly explain why the efficiency e is in the denominator o

briefly explain why the efficiency (e) is in the denominator of the pump equation, but in the numeratior of the turbine equation?

Solution

if we try to define efficiency in simple term ,then we can say that it is the ratio of anything(energy, power) which are supplied to system to what we are getting from the system in diffrent form of energy/power.

in the case of turbine, we are supplying water power as input and getting shaft power as output so efficiency should be multiplied to water power so it is in numerator.

now, in the case of pump we are supplying shaft power as input and getting water power as output so,it should be multiplied to shaft power or it should divide to water power, this is the reason why it comes in denominator.

thats all !
