Briefly, how did the authors determine the role of the survivin protein in apoptosis?
What were the overall results of their findings?
What is the implication of this study? (2 marks)
Solution
The author first investigated the mechanics of survivin molecules on the inhibitions of cell apoptosis and found that the survivin protein binds to the Smac/Diablo of the cell and result in the inhibitions of apoptosis.. So they incubate the cell with the survivin protein normal and mutant form..!! After incubation they found that normal dimerize protein was able to inhibit the cell apoptosis rather than mutant form which was calculated by standard deviation. Moreover for seeing the interaction they inserted the flour scent labeling gene in the apoptosis protein producing gene.. Then the interaction was seen by FRET method as the apoptosis protein contains the flourscent portion which could be traced...
The overall results was that the survivin protein molecules when given to the cell in the experiment it reduced the rate of apoptosis in the cell. Moreover it also helps in proper microtuble formation and helps in proper cells division..!! But before that survivin molecules have to be dimerize to perform the particular function..!!!
It was concluded that the apoptosis, proper microtuble formation, proper cell division can be controlled, checked by using this survivin protein as it can interact with no of cell protein associated with these functions..!!
