Find the equation of the line passing through the point 4 3

Find the equation of the line passing through the point (4, 3) that is perpendicular to the line 5x + 2y = 6.

a. y = 2/5x + 23/5

b. y = 5/2 x 3/2

c. y = 5/ 2 x + 3 /2

d. y = 2 /5 x 14/ 5

e. y = 2/ 5 x 23 /5

Solution

5x + 2y = 6 =>y=(-5/2)x +3

slope of line 5x + 2y = 6 is m=-5/2

slope of line perpendicular to 5x + 2y = 6 by p

product of perpendicular lines =-1

mp=-1

(-5/2)p=-1

p=-1*(-2/5)

p=2/5

equation of line with slope 2/5 at point (-4,3) is

y-3=(2/5)(x-(-4))

y-3=(2/5)(x+4)

5(y-3)=2(x+4)

5y-15=2x+8

5y-2x=15+8

5y-2x=23

5y-2x=23 is equation of the line passing through the point (4, 3) that is perpendicular to the line 5x + 2y = 6.

Find the equation of the line passing through the point (4, 3) that is perpendicular to the line 5x + 2y = 6. a. y = 2/5x + 23/5 b. y = 5/2 x 3/2 c. y = 5/ 2 x
