write the equation of the line that passes through the point

write the equation of the line that passes through the points (-2,3) and (-4,5) using the following steps

a. find the slope of the line that passes through the points (-2,3)(-4,5)

b. find the y-intercept of the line

c.write the equation of the line

Solution

a) First we use the generic point (x,y) and one of the point (-2,3) or (-4,5) so, we use the points:

  (-2,3) and (x,y) and then....

m= x - -2    then....

y - 3

(y-3)m = x+2 and we use the next item to know \"m\"

Now we have m=1 and we use in the equation of the slope

(y -3)1 = x+2 so...

y - 3 = x+2 then...

x+2-y+3=0

x-y+5 = 0

b) find the y-intercept (m) of the line

m= y2 - y1     =   5 - 3 =      2 = 1

x2 - x1 -4 - -2 -2

c) Write the equation of the line

We have to use the vector equation

x - x1 =    y - y1 then

x2 - x1   y2- y1

x + y = 1 is the equation of the line...

write the equation of the line that passes through the points (-2,3) and (-4,5) using the following steps a. find the slope of the line that passes through the
