Consider the Marks to be in the decreasing order and the seat numbers in a increasing order. i.e the student performing well gets a 100 and seats in the seat numbered 1. and a students with a decreasing grades sits behind him. So as the seat number increases the perfomance detoriates. Hence it is a Negative Correlation. where the seat number is dependent on the marks.
