Exam Anxiety in Students (Exam Anxiety.sav dataset): To what extent do gender, exam anxiety, and time spent revising predict exam performance in students? Write an alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis also distinguish the independent variable and dependent variable.

Solution

To test the extent up to which the variables \'gender\', \'exam anxiety\' and \'time spent revising\' predicts exam performance, we can run a multiple linear regression model with dependent variable as \'exam perfoormance\' and the independent variables as stated earlier.

The hypothesis of testing can be stated as -

Null Hypothesis (Ho): There is no statistically significant relationship between dependent and independent variables. (p=0)

Alternative Hypothesis (Ha): There is a statistically significant relationship between dependent and independent variables. (p0)

The multiple linear regression model can be formed using excel or SPSS. I am doing it in excel for convenience.

So, we can see that the R-Square value is 0.2159 for the regression model. So, the variables \'gender\', \'exam anxiety\' and \'time spent revising\' only include 21.59% of the variation in the model. So, they do not predict the \'exam performance\' up to a good extent.
