A large (15,000-kg) military helicopter lifts a 6000-kg truck straight up out of a danger zone with an acceleration of 4 m/s^2. Calculate the tension in the lifting cable.

Solution

Here weight of the truck acts down wards. And the tension and force ma acts upwards.

So the force equation is that T+ma = mg

Or T = mg -ma = m(g-a) = 6000(10-4) = 36000 N
