Given Data:

n = 1200 rpm = 20 rps;

F = 2000 lbs. = 8896.44 N;                                                     

Consider Journal diameter =100 mm

r = 0.5d= 60mm            

STEP1:

Unit load for journal bearing: select according to application

TABLE IS REQUIRED

Consider recommended unit load for typical application is 0.6 to 1.2 MPa.

STEP2: Select l/d ratio according to application

As I have selected centrifugal pump the l/d ratio= 0.75 is selected.

l=0.75d           

l=0.75 x 100= 75mm

STEP3:

P= f/ld= 8896.44/ (75 x 100)            =1.186 MPa

STEP5: Choosing cast bronze material for the bearing, the recommended clearance is coming under C curve of Fig below.

STEP6: ho 0.005 + 0.00004 d =0.005 +0.00004x100= 0.009mm
