Use these symbols for the two different alleles upper band

Use these symbols for the two different alleles: upper band = D9BrapaSI^*2 lower band = D9BrapaSl^*1 Keep in mind that each of the individuals contains two alleles for this genetic marker. Determine the genotype of the: Maternal egg donor Child/Offspring Alleged pollen donor #1 Alleged pollen donor #2 Of the Child\'s alleles, which came from the egg?. Of the Child\'s alleles, which came from the pollen, whichever the pollen is?. Based on the above, can you exclude alleged pollen donor #1? Why or why not? Based on the above, can you exclude alleged pollen donor #2? Why or why not?

Solution

Genotype of the :

Maternal egg donor : S1*2 S1*2 .As it contains only one upper band and there will be two alleles.

Child/offspring : S1*2 S1*1 .As it contains one upper band, one lower band and there will be two alleles.

Alleged pollen donor #1:S1*1 S1*1 .As it contains only one upper band and there will be two alleles.

Alleged pollen donor # 2:S1*1 S1*2.As it contains one upper band, one lower band and there will be two alleles.

Of the child\'s alleles ,upper band came from the egg.

Of the child\'s alleles , lower band came from the pollen, which ever pollen it is.

Based on the above,we cannot exclude alleged pollen donor #1.This is because the upper band in child has come from mother. So the lower band could have come from pollen # 1 father.

Based on the above,we cannot exclude alleged pollen donor #2.This is because the upper band in child has come from mother. So the lower band could have come from pollen # 2 father who is heterozygous and shares common allele with pollen #1 father.

It is also to be noted here that we cannot exclude any pollen father i.e either pollen#1 or pollen#2.

Use these symbols for the two different alleles: upper band = D9BrapaSI^*2 lower band = D9BrapaSl^*1 Keep in mind that each of the individuals contains two all
