A sinusoidal transverse wave is traveling along a string in

A sinusoidal transverse wave is traveling along a string in the negative direction of an x axis. The figure below shows a plot of the displacement as a function of position at time t = 0. The x axis is marked in increments of 5 cm and the y axis is marked in increments of 2 cm. The string tension is 3 N, and its linear density is 30 g/m.

(c) Find the wave speed. (really stuck on this one, please explain how to get this answer in detail)
(d) Find the period of the wave.
(e) Find the maximum speed of a particle in the string.
(f) Complete the equation describing the traveling wave, in which x and y are in meters and t is in seconds.

Solution

c)

Wave speed

V=sqrt[T/u] =sqrt[3/0.03]

V=10 m/s

d)

angular freqeuency

W=v(2pi/lambda) =10*(2pi/0.2)

W=314.16 rad/s

Time period of wave

T=2pi/W =2pi/314.16

T=0.02 s

e)

Vmax=AW=0.1*314.16

Vmax = 31.4 m/s

f)

Wave number

k=2pi/lambda =2pi0.2 =10 pi

Y=0.1Sin(10pix-100pit)
