Describe in your own words what a centroid of a body is what are the differences between a centroid and a center of mass? When can we assume the center of mass is the same as the centroid of the object ? For design purposes, do you want the center of mass location to be higher off the ground or lower to the ground for a vehicle going around a sharp turn? Why?

Solution

a) centroid of a body is defined as the point where the complete area of a place body(surface) is assumed to be concentrated. the centroid is represented as G. it is also referred to as geometrical centre of the body.

b) The center of mass is a position defined relative to an object . It is the average position of all the parts of the system, weighted according to their masses.the centroid refers to the area concentration whereas the centre of mass refers to the mass of the body confcentration.

c) For simple rigid objects with uniform density, the center of mass is located at the centroid.

d) the lower the centre of mass, the more stable the vehicle will be on the curves because on curves while turning the centre of mass of the vehicle tend to move away from the vehicle which results in overturning of the vehicle so if hte centre of mass if lower then the vehicle can travel on the curve with high speeds.
