Solution

Set Drawing Units: Type DIMSTY (DImension Style) in command box and then Enter. Then click on Modify -> Primary Units -> Unit Format -> then select Architectural from drop down menu.

Set Drawing Limits: Type Limits in command box and then Enter. Then type lower corner co-ordinate (8.5 i.e 8-1/2) and Enter -> then type upper corner co-ordinate (11) and Enter.

Set GRIDDISPLAY: Type GRIDDISPLAY in command box and Enter -> then type 0 and Enter.

Set Grid to 1/4\": Type GRID in command box and Enter -> then type 0.25 (i.e. 1/4\") and Enter.

Set Snap to 1/8\": Type SNAP in command box and Enter -> then type 0.125 (i.e. 1/8\") and Enter.
