John throws darts at a dart board that is divided into 20 eq

John throws darts at a dart board that is divided into 20 equal slices. The slices tire labeled 1-20. John has no special talent throwing darts, but assume each trial he hits a number. What is the probability on John\'s 3^rd throw, he will hit #17.

Solution

Probability of success = 1/20

Since he hits the #17 in the third trail, first two trails results are not #17

Probability of #17 =1/20; Probability of not #17 = 1-(1/20) = 19/20

Since each trail is independent,

Probability john 3rd throw hit #17 = (19/20) *(19/20) * (1/20) = 0.045
