Experimental tests reveal that he will black out if this acceleration lasts for more than 5.0 s. Use 33 l m/s for the speed of sound. (a) Will the period of acceleration last long enough to cause him to black out? (b) what is greatest speed he can reach with an acceleration of 5g before he blacks out?

Solution

initial speed u=0

acceleration a= 5g = 5*9.8 = 49 m/s2

final speed v= 3*331 = 993 m/s

v= u + at

time to reach final speed = v/a = 993/49 = 20.27 seconds

so he will blackout as the period lasts longer than 5 s

time t = 5 s

acceleration a= 5g = 49 m/s2

final speed v = 49*5 = 245 m/s
