Question 9
Which ADC(s) is (are) the fastest?
A. Single-Ramp (Single-Slope)
B. Counting Converter
C. Charge-Redistribution
D. Successive Approximation
E. Parallel (Flash)
F. Dual-Ramp (Dual-Slope)
Solution
7)Counter type or ramp type Adc is the rarely used, as other converters have certain advantages compared to it.
Counter type has following disadvantages.
Every time the counter has to start from zero hence speed is less.
Clash or aliasing effect if the next input is sampled before completion of one operation.
This relatively slow sampling of analog signal placed it as rarely used one.
8)Dual ramp type is the slowest Adc.It sacrifices it\'s resolution for its speed. It requires 2n clck pulses for an n-bit conversion.
It\'s conversion time is given by (2n+N)Tclk.
It is used where high accuracy is needed.
9) parallel or flash type is the fastest ADC. It requires only one clock pulse for an n-bit conversion.
Successive approximation is having good accuracy and good speed.so it is widely used.
Single ramp type is similar to counter type ,but in place of DAC it uses integrator. It is having noise problem.
