Preliminary Read the slides of Lecture 13 Calculate the time
     Preliminary Read the slides of Lecture 13. Calculate the time constant when R = 1 k ohm, C = 0.5 mu F, C = 1 mu F and C = 2 mu F, respectively. Fill in the table below. Procedure 1. Construct a circuit shown below with a resistor of 1 k ohm and a capacitor of 1 mu F. The power source is the Function Generator. Set the output of Function Generator as square wove. Observe v with on input of a 0 to 10 volts. Adjust the frequency of the Function Generator over the range from 100 Hz to 1 kHz and observe the output that is across the capacitor. With the frequency around 100 Hz, measure the time constant with on oscilloscope Fill up the table below. Place two 1 mu F capacitors in series. Repeat 1, 2 and 3. Place two 1 mu F capacitors in parallel. Repeat 1, 2 and 3. Does the time constant change with different capacitor combinations? Why?

  Solution
Time constant for RC network is T=RC (sec)
R=1K, C=0.5 micro Farads then T=0.5 msec
R=1K, C=1 micro Farads then T=1 msec
R=1K, C=2 micro Farads then T=2 msec
