. Distinguish between passive and active immunity (2-3 good paragraphs)

Solution

Immunity is the body’s ability to resist and fight against pathogens. It can be either active or passive immunity. The differences are given below.

Active immunity has two types such as natural active immunity and acquired active immunity. Natural immunity is when the person is exposed to the pathogen, gets the infection, develops disease and as a result antibodies are formed which fight against the same infection later if exposed. Acquired active immunity is by getting vaccine or immunisation. The vaccine acts as the antigen and the human body subsequently produces antibodies which fight against the infection. Active immunity is for long term.

Passive immunity is through immunoglobulins. It can be natural as in the case of transference of immunoglobulins from the mother to child during pregnancy. It can be artificial as in the case of injection of immunoglobulins as short term immunisation. Passive immunity is short term.
