Solution

12x + 3

There are two terms, 12x and 3....

Now, they have a common factor, 3, right?

So, we factorize 3 out in common from 12x + 3

When u remove 3 from 12x, we are left with 12x/3 or 4x. Similarly, when we remove 3 from 3, we are left with 3/3, i.e 1

So, we get :

3(4x + 1)

This is how Mr. Sal Khan came up with that :)

Now, how do we proceed?

First we take the given inequality....

9 >= 4x + 1

We had 12x + 3, which we have now obtained is nothing but 3(4x + 1)

So, take 9 >= 4x + 1 and multiply both sides by 3 :

3*9 >= 3(4x + 1)

27 >= 12x + 3

So, 12x + 3 <= 27

This is how tis done!
