The best and accurate method to measure renal function in old people and to detect the stage of CKD is eGFR i.e.estimated glomerular filtration rate , it can detect the stage of CKD and determine the prognosis and complications. Before giving the dosage of medicines the creatinine based estimates should be measured properly.

Its measurement is based on the terminal the volume of Plasma from which substance is removed by glomerular filtration during it passes through the nephron. This test involved a blood test which measures the chemical creatinine which is The breakdown product of muscle. normally it should be cleared from the blood if the Kidneys are working properly.

Cystatin c is found to be more accurate marker of renal function & it is produced by all nucleated cells and it is not affected by changes in diet ,gender, age or muscle mass.
