Given the following information (ignore the top posts on the LEGO bricks):

The short blocks have a thickness of 3.20±.01 mm

The tall blocks have a thickness of 9.60±.01 mm

When the stack is the SHORTEST: What would the maximum size of these gaps be without making the assembly any taller?

Solution

>> Now, for shortest stack,

both blocks must have their shortest thickness,

i.e. Shorter Blocks have 3.20 - 0.1 = 3.19 mm

and taller Blocks have 9.60 - 0.1 = 9.59 mm

>> Now, shorter stack will form when all three shorter blocks combine, i.e. 3*3.19 = 9.57 mm

But as taller block has thickness 9.59 mm

So, this scenario is not possible

> So, shorter stack length = 9.59 mm

and, then gaps will be in shorter blocks region = 9.59 - 9.57 = 0.02 mm
