What are the types of loads mitigated by longitudinal reinfo
What are the types of loads mitigated by longitudinal reinforcing and stirrups? How are they different? and how are they placed within a concrete beam section?
Solution
Longitudinal reinforcement is provided to carry the bending stress effectively and sees that the beam not failed in flexure.
Stirrups are provided to carry the excess shear developed in the beam.
Both are different and carries different loads as said above. Stirrups are less in their size than longitudinal reinforcement.
Longitudinal reinforcemnt is provided Along the beam and shear reinforcement is provided across the beam.
