The surface of the sphere centered at the origin with radius

The surface of the sphere centered at the origin with radius 3 is divided into two parts by the plane x = 2. What is the surface area of the smaller part?

Solution

surface area of the smaller part= area of circular part + area of the curved surface
=pi*(3^2)-2(2))+4*(pi)*(3^(2))*(cos^(-1)(2/sqrt(5))/(pi-cos^(-1)(2/sqrt(5)))

=5pi+36*pi/(1-{pi/cos^(-1)(2/sqrt(5))}
