how do I set up my scientific calculator for statistics? we are working on correlation coefficients
Solution
Use following steps -
1) Use the MODE button to get the list of modes available in the calculator.
2) From the dropdown menu, you will see the 3: STAT option in second row. So, press the key 3 from the numeric keys.
3) You will get a list of operations to be done. You don\'t need to understand all of them. As you need to find the correlation coefficient so, you will need two variables data to be feeded in the calculator. So, you will need the 2: A+BX option. So, press the key 2 from numeric pad.
3) You will now get a view as shown below -
| X | Y |
1 | | |
2 | | |
So, start feeding the data in the columns one by one. Use the \'=\' key after each value to store the data.
4) Once you enter all the data, press the AC key and you will return to the home screen. You need not to worry for the disappearance of the data from the screen. It has been stored in the memory of calculator.
5) Now use the SHIFT-->1 (that is press the shift key and then the 1 key) to get the list of operations to be done on the data.
6) The correlation comes from the regression option that is option 7: Reg. So, press the key 7 from numeric pad.
7) Again you will get the list of values. You need the value of \'r\' that is the correlation coefficient between the two variables. So, you need the option 3: r to get the correlation coefficient. Hence, press the key 3 from the numeric pad.
8) You will return to the home screen with \'r\' written on the top left corner. You only need to press the \'=\' key to get the correlation coefficient.
Thats it. You will get the correlation coefficient between the two variable X and Y.
