margin of error = standard deviation(s) /sqrt(n)

=>

0.5 = S / sqrt(n)

=> n = S^2/0.5^2 =S^2/0.25 = 4S^2

so, inorder tohave margin of error less than 0.5 , the size of sample should be greater than 4 time the square of standard deviation
