Jane was in a car accident and lost a great deal of blood. To replace the blood loss, she was given A+ blood. What are Jane\'s possible blood types and why? What does the positive mean? If Jane gets pregnant, will she need the Rhogam injection? Why or Why not? ****I need one source included

Solution

A+ blood can be given to only A+ and AB + patients. So the possible blood groups of jane are A+ and AB+ because A+ blood group has A antigen on its red blood cell surface and b antibodies in the blood along with the rhesus factor and AB+ has A and B antigens on the cell surface and neither of antibodies. So there will be no agglutination or mismatching of the blood if A+ or AB+ receives A+ blood.

Positive sign refers to rhesus factor or Rh factor ( from rhesus monkey)

RHogam or rho injection is immune globin administered to Rh- pregnant ladies to prevent complications in pregnancy when Rh negative blood encounters Rh positive blood. Here jane is Rh+ either A+ or AB+ so RHogam injection will not be required.
