Question : Explain the differences in performance of Power Transistors and Thyristors in terms of switching speed and power consumption.

1) rating of Thyristor is always in kilowatts, whereas for Transistor rating is in terms of watts.,

so, Thysirstors have better power handling capacity compared to Transistors at circuits of large amount of currents.

2)main advantage of using thyristor as power handling device is, there is no internal loss in switching of thyristors as power is controlled by periodic switching on-off.

3) switching speed of power transistor is high compared to the Thyristor.here transitor have low switching losses and high power losses compared to the Thyristor.

Decreasing order of switching speed for different devices: mosfet > IGBT> power Transistor > Thristor.
