A ball is dropped from a height of 100 feet One second later
A ball is dropped from a height of 100 feet. One second later, a second ball is dropped from a height of 75 feet.
a) Which ball hits the ground first?
b) What is the velocity of the first ball after 1 second?
c)What is the acceleration of the first ball after 1 second?
a) Which ball hits the ground first?
b) What is the velocity of the first ball after 1 second?
c)What is the acceleration of the first ball after 1 second?
Solution
g= 9.8 m/s^2 = 32.2 ft/s^2
a)time taken by first ball, t1 = sqrt(2*100/32.2) = 2.59 sec
time taken by second ball, t2 = sqrt(2*75/32.2) = 2.16 sec
total time by second ball = 1+2.16= 3.16 sec
therefore, 1st ball hits the ground first.
b)v after 1 sec , v = 0+32.2*1 = 32.2 ft/sec
c) a is constant and equal to g = 32.2 ft/sec^2
