a scientist has two solutions which she is Lee was solution a solution be each contain salt she know that solution a is 65% salt and solution b has 80% salt she wants to obtain 60 ounces of a mixture of 75% salt how many ounces of each solution should she use
Solution
let she needs x ounces of solution a
then solution b would be (60 - x) ounces
then equation becomes
.65 x + .80( 60-x) = .75 (60)
.65x + 48 - .8x = 45
-.15 x = -3
x = 20
therefore scientist needs 20 ounces of solution a and 40 ounces of solution b to obtain a mixture of 75% salt
