The production department of Celltronics International wants
The production department of Celltronics International wants to explore the relationship between the number of employees who assemble a subassembly and the number produced. As an experiment, 3 employees were assigned to assemble the subassemblies. They produced 7 during a one-hour period. Then 5 employees assembled them. They produced 12 during a one-hour period. The complete set of paired observations follows.
The dependent variable is production; that is, it is assumed that different levels of production result from a different number of employees.
A scatter diagram is provided below. Based on it, does there appear to be any relationship between the number of assemblers and production?
Compute the correlation coefficient. (Negative amounts should be indicated by a minus sign. Round sx, sy and r to 3 decimal places.)

A consumer buying cooperative tested the effective heating area of 20 different electric space heaters with different wattages. Here are the results.
Compute the correlation between the wattage and heating area. Is there a direct or an indirect relationship? (Negative values should be indicated by a minus sign. Round your answer to 3 decimal places.)
Conduct a test of hypothesis to determine if it is reasonable that the coefficient is greater than zero. Use the 0.050 significance level. (Negative values should be indicated by a minus sign. Round your answer to 3 decimal places.)
Develop the regression equation for effective heating based on wattage. (Negative values should be indicated by a minus sign. Round your answers to 3 decimal places.)

Solution
(C): sx=1.4142, sy=3.8471, r=(27/5)/(1.4142*3.8471)=0.9925. (3a): r=(14.2694)/(2.7938*5.9804)=0.854, Y=1.876X+1.981=15.113(at X=7). (1a): r=(2678.95)/(381.4036*79.1858)=0.0887, here r>0, so we reject Ho. (1c): Y=(0.0184)X+137.4211.
