In this article , the authors \"have tried to perform a genome-wide association study to search for genetic susceptibility loci for serum urate and gout and investigated the causal nature of the associations of serum urate with gout and selected cardiovascular risk factors and coronary heart disease (CHD)\". The purpose of this study was to see the effect of elevated levels of gout and how it poses a risk for cardiovascular diseases.

A GWAS study was performed- in 28,283 white participants. The most significant SNP at serum urate was studied and the score was added and genetic urate score was obtained. Results were computed and it was seen that the genetic urate score presented a causal relationship between gout and serum urate but not for CHD and cardiovascular risk.
