CSR of a firm represents and explains how a firm is fulfilling the obligations of the society. it is a non profit oriented activity, which the firm performs towards the society. there are different kinds of CSR activities can perform by a firm, they may be like providing welfare activities towards the society, offereing free education to the poor, offering health care facilities or developmental facilities to the society or any kind.

there wont the relationship between the firm core business and the CSR activities of the firm. take an example of ITC, for the years being they are donating funds to free education to the poor children. on the other side they are selling tobacco products to the people which are causes to cancer and many health related activities.
