52 Compute the interquartile range for the following data 24

52. Compute the interquartile range for the following data: 2,4,5,6,10 53. Consider the following outcomes for an experiment: Outcome 1 2 3 4 5 Probability .18 .22 .10 .15 .35 Let A consists of outcomes 1, 2, 4 and B consist of outcomes 4 and 5 a. Find P(A) and P(B) b. Find P(both A and B occur) c. Find P( either A or B occur) d. Are A, B independent? e. Are A, B mutually exclusive.

Solution

a).P(A) = P(1) + P(2) + P(4)
     = 0.18 + 0.22 +0.15
     =0.55

P(B) = P(4) + P(5)
     = 0.15 + 0.35
     =0.5

b).P( A and B) = P(4)
            = 0.15

c).P( A or B) = P(A)   + P(B) - P ( A and B)
            =0.55 + 0.5 -0.15
            =0.9

d).for independent P( A and B) = P(A) * P(B)
                  0.15      = 0.55 *0.5
not equal so not independent

e).A and B are not mutually equal since there is no chance for 3
