The military set up a drone so it can fly to a location alon

The military set up a drone so it can fly to a location along a straight line. The drone can fly at 11mph for 12 minutes. Assuming that the military tapes a 1 Gigabyte USB stick to the drone. Also assuming that 1024 MB = 1 GB.

Answer the following two questions
and show your thought process.

1.What is the maximum data transfer rate in Megabits per second that can be achieve by having the drone deliver the USB stick to its
maximum target distance?

2. Up to which distance is the drone faster than a 50Megabit xfinity Internet connection?

Hint: The drone does not have a fixed
data transfer rate, because the data transfer rate is data volume over
time.

Solution

1) Total distance covered in 12 minutes = 11 m / Hr * 12 minutes = 11 m * 12 / 60 = 2.2 m

Maximum data transfer rate = 1 GB delivered over the distance of 2.2 m = 1 GB / 2.2 m

But speed is given, 11 m in 1 hour i.e., 11 m / Hr => 1 m in 1/11 Hr.

Maximum data transfer rate (MB / Hr) = 1024 MB / (2.2 * 1/11) Hr = 1024 * 50 MB / Hr = 51200 MB / Hr

Maximum data transfer rate (Mbits / s) = 51200 * 8 Mb / 3600 s = 113.7778 Mb/s

b) Maximum data transfer when data tranfer rate is greater than 50 Mb/s = (113.7778 - 50) Mb/s = 7.972 MB/s.

1024 MB transfer over 2.2 m.

=> 7.972 MB transfer over 7.972 * 2.2 /1024 m = 0.01711564 m

So maximum distance covered is 0.01711564 m / s.
