Anatomy II Question Chapter 21:

1. Explain how an ACE inhibitor lowers blood pressure. (ACE is an enzyme required to form angiotensin II)

2. Determine the effect of each factor on capillary filtration/reabsorption: a. albumin deficiency, b. elevated capillary blood pressure, c. elevated protein in interstitial fluid

Solution

1. ACE converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II which is responsible for vasoconstriction and hence raise the blood pressure. ACE inhibitor block the production of ACE and hence angiotensin II production lowers which cause vasodilation and reduces blood pressure. It also reduce water retention by body and thus lowers blood pressure.
