Solve the following system of equations by using elimination. Write the solution as an ordered pair (a, b). 1/6 x = - 3/4 y - 1/3 -1/3 x - 1/6 - 3/4 y

Solution

x/6 = -3y/4 -1/3

Multiply the equation by 24:

4x + 18y = -8 ----(1)

-x/3 = 1/6 - 3y/4

Multiply the equation by24

-8x +18y = 4 ----(2)

Multiply equation 2:

8x +36y =- 16

-8x +18y = 4

-------------- add

54y = -12

y = -12/54 = -4/18 = -2/9

Substitue value of y in equation :4x + 18y = -8

we get x=-1
